Electro-Mechanical Fitter – Team Leader

KBM Resourcing are recruiting on behalf of a well-established engineering business for an experienced Electro-Mechanical Fitter – Team Leader to join their workshop team based in Rugby.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled electro-mechanical fitter with strong experience working on rotating machinery to combine hands-on technical work with team leadership responsibilities. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality repairs, maintaining workshop standards, and supporting project delivery within agreed timescales.
Key Responsibilities
Electro-Mechanical Fitting Duties
- Inspect, dismantle and reassemble rotating machinery, including AC and DC motors and generators.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics and technical documentation.
- Assess machine condition, identify wear and damage, and carry out basic electrical testing.
- Prepare components and assemble machinery to quality standards ready for testing.
- Deliver high-quality workmanship, achieving first-time fixes wherever possible.
- Complete job reports, inspection sheets and workshop documentation accurately.
- Work methodically, maintaining clear records throughout disassembly and repair processes.
- Liaise with customers when required and provide a professional level of service.
Team Leadership Responsibilities
- Lead by example, promoting a strong culture of Health & Safety, Quality and housekeeping.
- Conduct monthly Health & Safety walkarounds and participate in H&S meetings.
- Ensure parts and components are correctly labelled, stored and handled safely.
- Verify that work instructions are followed and completed accurately.
- Work closely with Quality and Inspection teams to maintain compliance and documentation standards.
- Support project delivery through effective planning of labour and resources.
- Assist with labour costing, productivity monitoring and efficiency improvements.
- Identify training and development opportunities within the workshop team.
- Contribute to tender reviews and project planning activities.
Skills & Experience Required
- Mechanical Engineering qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent).
- Proven experience within an electro-mechanical repair or service environment.
- Strong knowledge of medium and large rotating machinery.
- Experience working on AC and DC motors and generators.
- Familiarity with high-voltage equipment and associated safety requirements.
- Ability to work independently while effectively leading and supporting a team.
- Strong commitment to Health & Safety, quality standards and continuous improvement.
- Competent in the safe use of engineering tools, equipment and workshop machinery.
- Willingness to travel for short periods within the UK and occasionally overseas.
- Full UK driving licence is advantageous.
